Andrew is accepting the Curtis Clark Award from Orville Schmidt, Chairman of the Award Committee

Addison Dwyre from Elgin, attended the Royal this year to show her Jersey calf. She showed in the Novice Class of the Jersey Youth Showmanship Competition. Addison, 12 years old, did not graduate from Kemptville College but her family and calf have Kemptville College connections. Her mom Tessa is a 2003 grad. Her dad Michael is a 2000 grad and her grandpa Bill Dwyre graduated in ‘72.To top all that, her calf shown with her in the picture is Lorivale Tiquila Hydro. Lorivale Farm has another Kemptville grad, Lori Chamberlain who graduated in ‘83. She farms with her husband and son in Marmora.

Curtis Clark Achievement Award

Another highlight at the Royal was the presentation of the Curtis Clark Achievement Award.  Andrew Vander Meulen, a ‘89 grad was the 33rd recipient of this award which was established to honour Curtis Clark, a respected Alberta Holstein breeder. Andrew, with his wife Jennifer,and family own Avonlea Genetics Inc. in Brighton.

The first semester is completed for the 26 students attending the new Business-Agricultural College Program at Algonquin College , Perth Campus. Support has been excellent for the optional co-op part of the program. Students are enjoying the welcome they have received in Perth. Algonquin will be present at the Ottawa Farm show with info for students who want to register for the program next year.Algonquin College Business-Agriculture students visited North Gower Grains owned by Kemptville College Alumnus Dwight Foster who graduated in ‘86. They are shown in the photos below along with instructor Blair Dow a ‘84 grad.

The Crites family from just east of Ingleside hosted an open barn tour at Critesdale Farms. The Crites family are also grads of Kemptville College. In the photo are Pamela ( McNeely) ‘83 Food Grad, Calvin ‘79 grad and their son Adam a 2014 grad. Adam is the fourth generation to farm at their current location.

The two DeLaval VMS Supra + robots milk their herd of just over 90 cows and they can expand to 150 cows if they install a third robot.Their new barn and milking system allows more flexible hour and is less labour intensive.

Mervyn Tripp, a 1939 graduate of Kemptville College will celebrate his 101st birthday on October 23. Congratulations from the Kemptville College Alumni.
