2018 KCA Scholarship Winners Announced

The Kemptville College Alumni Board is pleased to announce the names of the students receiving the scholarships. With the number of applicants and the caliber of the applicants the Alumni decided to hand out four instead of original two. In 2019 they will revert back to the two scholarships – one to a student in their second year agricultural related program and one to a student in their second year of a food related program.

Check out the web www.kcalumni.ca in the summer for the application form for 2019.

The winners are:

Cody Ayotte-Bisson from Ottawa, who is attending Algonquin in Culinary Management

Robert Levac from St Bernardin, who is attending University of Guelph for a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture

Amy Rodenburg from Alymer,  who is attending University of Guelph for a Bachelor of Science in CHAT: Crops, Horticulture and Turf grass management

Natalie Templeton from Kemptville, who is also attending University of Guelph for a Bachelor  in Animal Science.

All recipients had to have a relative who had graduated from Kemptville College. The Alumni wants to encourage young people to complete agricultural and food related programs and the $500 scholarship is intended to help out with their career choice.

Thank you to all our applicants and congratulations to the 4 recipients!

Why I Donated to the Alumni Historical Building

When I first came to Canada in ‘63, I was placed at the Willis Farm. That was a God send, especially as a newcomer to this wonderful country. I was immediately absorbed as a family member and Reg, being the same age, quickly became like a brother. A strong family bond was formed and I was never homesick – in fact I didn’t return to my homeland for seventeen years.

In 1965 I decided to go back to school and study agriculture since I had studied in that field for five years in Holland. Reg Willis encouraged me to attend KAS and the next two years were probably the most important years of my life. It was the right decision and with out a doubt, I would do it all over again. My intention was to farm, however to get into farming as an outsider, seemed impossible.
I ended up in the landscaping business, which in my opinion, is the next best career to farming. I am still involved in landscaping , even at my age (75 ). I enjoy every day and have no plans on retiring. Having been blessed with good health and great satisfaction with the work I do, I will continue at a more relaxed pace.

I want to contribute to the Kemptville College Alumni Historical Building in recognition of the positive influence the college had on what transpired with my career after graduation, in memory of a good friend Reg Willis ’63, and I encourage others to contribute to this very worthwhile cause.

Happy 75th Birthday Douglas Irvine!

Douglas Irvine recently celebrated his 75th birthday with over 250 guests in attendance. Douglas lives on Irvinelea Farm in Dalkeith.

He is a well respected dairyman whose farm produced many prize winning Holsteins under his stewardship until the herd was dispersed in 2015.

Douglas is a ‘63 grad and we appreciate his most generous contribution to the Historical Building.
